Ghost "Goes All In," Tests "Pokerface" On The Net
Ghostface Killah's online poker site gfkpoker.com is scheduled to go live this week.
Hip-Hop hold'em has been a growing trend in the rap community, with rappers like Ja Rule, The Game and Snoop Dogg dealing in on one of the most popular forms of gambling. By next week Ghostface fans will be able to go online to gfkpoker.com and play alongside the GFK poker team or other featured hip-hop guests. The GFK poker team consists of Ghostface, rapper Shawn Wiggs of Ghost's Theodore Unit, Hot 97 personality Angie Martinez and Ghostface's executive producer and manager, Mike Caruso.
"Ghost has a studio he records at in Staten Island called Redline. There was an old studio in the back room that we gutted out and made a lounge/poker room. All the engineers -- Method Man, Tru Life and dudes that play poker meet and play cards there," Caruso said.
The in-studio poker room proved inspirational for Ghostface and Theodore Unit while working on his most recent album, More Fish.
"From being around it, one of the guys from Theodore Unit made a song called "Pokerface" on the More Fish album- when they did the song Ghost was really starting to get into poker, watching it on TV and everything like that so Ghost sponsored us to play in the Funkmaster Flex/P. Diddy tournament. Both Shawn Wiggs and I made it to the final table and Wiggs ended up winning the tournament," Caruso said.
Gfkpoker.com is scheduled to go live on February 8. Ghostface Killah's most recent album More Fish is in stores now.

Ghostface Killah is scheduled to headline the third annual "Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival" this summer.
The festival, which will take place on 5 days in June, will also feature performances from Consequence, Skillz, and Tanya Morgan. Ghostface will take the stage on the festival's last day (June 23).
"Ghost is simply in his own category," said Festival Chair Wes Jackson via a statement. "His track record of hits is over 10 years long. He has rocked with everyone from Beyonce to MF Doom. Who else can say that? His versatility and borderless creativity is exactly what the BHF is all about. As we move park- wide we couldn't ask for a better MC at the top of the bill."
"Ghost is an excellent addition but we are not done yet ," added Festival Director Alma Geddy-Romero. "In the next few weeks we will be announcing some legendary names from the past as well as some outstanding new artists. Last year we introduced Lupe Fiasco to Brooklyn and brought Big Daddy Kane home. Look for more of the same this year."
The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival will take place on June 7, 14, 21, 22, and 23.
The first two dates will take place at the powerHouse Arena in DUMBO while the last three will all be held at Empire Fulton Ferry State Park. For more info, including ticketing, visit www.brooklynbodega.com.

Gegen Ghost ist wegen unerlaubter Benutzungs eines Samples bei dem "Last Night Skit" auf dem Pretty Toney Album Klage eingereicht worden:
| | | |
*R&B/Jazz singer Esther Williams has filed a $10 million lawsuit against parties responsible for the use of her 1976 single “Last Night Changed It All” by the late Tupac Shakur and Wu Tang Clan rapper Ghostface Killah without permission.
Papers were filed in Washington D.C. Federal Court against Amaru Entertainment, the company inspired by Tupac and run by his mother, Afeni Shakur; and Universal Music Group, reports Allhiphop.com.
In 2002, Amaru released the posthumous double album “Better Dayz,” which contained the Williams sample in the track “Late Night.” In 2004, Ghostface’s UMG-released “The Pretty Toney Album” featured the sample in a skit on the CD titled, “Last Night Skit.”
In 1998, Williams and her husband Davey Yarborough created the Washington Jazz Arts Institute, a Washington D.C. based nonprofit organization dedicated to educating and mentoring young and aspiring musicians.
Williams, a former Miss Black D.C., has worked with such artists as Yarborough, Sir Roland Hanna, Bobby Felder and has opened for such groups as The Temptations and Peaches and Herb.

The act of the night engaged hopes for more historic stuff. Ghostface walked up with none of his usual adornment, just sweatbands, tee and jeans. “Be Easy” came out of the speakers to raucous approval. Theodore Unit looked more like a regimented back-up team than mere hype men. Cappadonna performed “Ice Cream” with the man of honor but after it there were all Ghost fan favorites and some unexpected turns. From “One” to “The Forest” he bopped along the stage holding rapt dedication from the now enormous crowd. They all came to see Ghost. Fat Joe graced Brooklyn for a moment with his “New York” verse, a nod to his staying power in hometown environs and beyond. The concert was free, the day was breezy and you couldn’t have planned a twenty thousand onlooker block party better.

Mal wieder ein kleiner Angriff seitens des G-Unit Camps:
| | | |
Yeah, it's hard to imagine Ghostface is going to stop cursing, especially considering his last couple of records.
The peanut gallery: "Nobody even cares what he does." "Who's listening to him, anyway?" "That was the '90s, B. Kids don't even know Ghostface anymore." "The streets are different now," says Yayo. "Guys like Ghostface don't matter. They don't. They had a run, but it's over."
What if it sells a couple hundred thousand copies, isn't that valid? Or does it have to sell millions for you to take it seriously?
In my camp, a couple hundred thousand records is a failure. From my perspective, if I sell 200,000 copies, after selling 12 million records, it's considered terrible.
But maybe he's trying to make a different kind of record?
What, the kind people don't buy?
No, one with incredible, detailed storytelling that's moving and powerful, and isn't dependent on some obvious hook.
Look, I understand all that. But if you're on a major record label, and he [Ghostface] is, and you sell a couple hundred thousand records, that was a failure. Your fuckin' photos and videos aren't recouped with 200,000 copies sold.
OK, but can you at least acknowledge that a commercial flop, like, say, [Ghostface's] Supreme Clientele, can still be an artistic achievement?
"He didn't even write that album, man," says Yayo, his eyes narrowing.
What?
Yayo: "He didn't write it. That kid from Far Rockaway -- Superb -- he wrote that record. You know Superb from Far Rock?"
No, and that's a pretty serious charge.
